13 Oct - Black History Month Show

Bhms12

Congratulations to everyone involved in last night’s Black History Month Show!  It was an eclectic mix of acts from poetry readings to rapping, tap dancing to gospel singing and a great deal in between.  We had a wonderful audience and a lively, supportive atmosphere. The focus of the show was to celebrate the contribution of black artists to British culture, but it also celebrated the warmth, creativity and diversity of our students, with many of the acts created and performed by the students themselves.  Particular highlights included the Gospel choir led by Nana Oteng-Attakora, solos from Nicholas Corion, Austin James, Matthew Page and Danielle Fatunla and monologues by Steven Coker and Ayomiposi Awoyemi.  Original poetry written by Thil Vimaleswaran and Ebun Adepoju was extremely moving. The Afrobeats dance group were fabulous,  Joshua Aderanti’s tap dance was incredible and Tolu’s rapping energised the audience, particularly when performing with Michael ‘warpath’ Okezie. Thank you to our performers who have all been a joy to work with, and particular thanks to Ayoade Adewumi who has been fantastic throughout the organisation process and unfailingly a pleasure to work with.
